Success in Bakersfield

Great racing in Bakersfield today. After nearly a month since Ironman Arizona, I was back in action this morning for the 27th annual Bakersfield Triathlon. I did the short course race (.5 mile swim, 12.5 mile bike and 3.2 mile run). I also debut racing with my new bike. Wow...blazing fast. Felt great throughout. Swam the half mile in 11 mins., hopped on my bike and rode nearly 22 mph and finished it in 35 mins. Then on to the run. A bit slower than I wanted due to a cramp in my side but finished strong (even though the course was longer than 3.2 miles--more like 3.6). I placed 4th in my age group--WooHoo!!! Not sure overall, but certainly in the top 20 (and probably top 10 in the mens). Nice way to get the rest of the season going...keep you posted.

Back in Action

A month after the Ironman Arizona triathlon, I am back in action this weekend with the Bakersfield Triathlon. It will be nice to wake up on race morning knowing that I don't have to travel 4 hours to a race. And this race is a short one to...I guess every race will be short after the 140.6 miles of the Ironman. In fact, I should be done in under 80 minutes.

Looking to the future, the Ironman Coure d'Alene will most likely be my next Ironman. June 2008. But for this year, we are looking at racing every month for the remainder of the year. My next peak race will be the Folsom Int'l Triathlon in August. Jen and I will also be running the Disneyland Half Marathon in September along with returning to Carp for the Carpentaria Triathlon. We will culminate the year with the Sacramento Marathon and begin looking ahead to 2008 with the Ironman and possibly the American River 50 mile run.

Onward and upward...
