1 month and counting

We are down to 1 month remaining, 4 weeks, 28 days... Yikes. Kind of scary but very exciting. Of course, that is the Ironman Coeur d'Alene on June 22. I have my taper period where I start backing off of the intense workouts. Although, this first week of taper doesn't seem like rest to me. I am still swimming 10000 yards, biking about 140 miles and running about 27 miles. Where is the rest? I feel gipped. Anyway, as the coming weeks go, I will back off about 25% from the previous week and begin carbo loading for the race. Also, a new challenge has surfaced: a very cold swim. Apparently the heavy snow fall from the winter has caused the runoff to lower the temperature of Coeur d'Alene lake to a balmy and very respectable 47 degrees. You read correctly. Race officials think that the water won't get much passed 50 on race day. That should be interesting. All well... love the challenge. See you in the coming weeks as Jen and I embark on our vacation drive through several states. We will post along the way.

7 weeks and counting

7 weeks and counting. In a just 49 days, I will embark on my next Ironman triathlon adventure. Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is the destination. On June 22, I will trying to better my time by at least 2h and 30m. My goal: a sub-13 hour Ironman. Training has been going well. Putting in long hours on the bike and the run. For instance, in the last 8 days, I have ridden over 100 miles, run over 50 and swam over 8000 yards. It only gets tougher from this point forward. I am confident in a sub 13-hour because of the change in focus on how I train. It is all about the aerobic heart rate and staying within that range. I have an aggressive goal of a sub 12-hour, but will be very pleased with a sub 13-hour.

Once CDA is done, I have a small amount of time off before I start training for the Ironman Arizona in November. 6 months and counting... 2 Ironmans in 1 year: what was I thinking?
