Trail of 2 Cities Half Marathon
Here is a quick update on the latest in the racing world of 2007 from the McKenna Family.
Jen finished her last race of 2007 in stunning fashion. She decided, at the last minute, to walk the Fresno Trail of 2 Cities half marathon on November 11. She finished in 3h 36m. She met a wonderful companion while walking and they finished together. Funny thing was that she finished this race walking with the same time as the Disneyland Race, and she ran that one. What a great year for her!!! Titus Canyon 30k in Death Valley in February, Disneyland Half Marathon in September, and Trail of 2 Cities Half Marathon in November.
For me, I completed the half marathon in 2h 3m. 20 minutes faster that the Disneyland Half Marathon. One more race for 2007: Sacramento Marathon in December. Then it is some well deserved time off before starting the Ironman training in 2008.

You know, that whole race timing thing is funny! I can choose to think I'm a crappy jogger or a swell walker... I think I'll opt for viewing myself as a swell walker ;o)
When Corey first told me that we could walk this trail, my thoughts were: "How boring will a walk through Fresno and Clovis be?!" but I also thought, "Hey, one more opportunity to commit myself to a long walk and to get some participating goodies at the end!
I had no intention of making friends or anything like that. I have enough friends to keep track of. I don't want to fake like I have one for 3 hours! My plan was to just rock out on my ipod and work my legs!!!! Well, like most plans, this one was debunked within the first mile. I met this totally cool woman named.... err..... Shannon!!! Seriously, we hit it off so well! She's a correctional officer for the women's prison in Chowchilla. We talked about home, work, pets, her ranch, children, crazy people, success stories --everything! By the time Corey came to greet us close to the finish line, she couldn't wait to meet the man she'd heard so much about, and I was totally happpy to meet her husband. Too funny. One thing is certain, I was able to ignore the pain of my horribly unconditioned body, and the race went FAST! Lesson learned: making friends on the race trail is NOT gay!!!! ;o)
P.S. the trail was beautiful :o) Lots of fall colors :o)
